I have never bought a domain for less than $2000 as that’s the minimum investment you will see a nice return even if you are sitting on the domain and not developing it. If I buy 10 domains at $60 each then i will have to develop if them if i am even going to see a return of $100. I would even have to do some seo to bring in some traffic, plus its a hard sell. If I have a nice generic name, say permit.org which was a recent sale, it will sell itself. you can park a generic and if its any good the domain will get “type-ins” and bring you in some revenue while you waiting for a buyer.
It takes me approx 2 weeks from purchasing a domain to selling it if i was to pay $2000 and I will sell between $3,000 and $7,000. you will have to sell a number of $60 domains to get to those levels of income. Obviously it is down to your budget, however go for generics rather than two worded domains as its less work.
Again, i bought a domain called offers.net and subscriptions.net for $4000 each. 1 month later they were both sold for approx $38,000. you cannot make those revenues and in those timescales dealing in $60-$100 domains.
TODAYS TIP:
I purchase a number of domains from pool and snapnames via their back-order service for expired domains. I am so lazy when it comes to research so I let other domainers do it for me. In snapnames you can see how many people have back-ordered a domain. If 100 people have back-ordered a domain IT MUST BE GOOD!, then do your research on the domain. again generally i go through a domain expired list and if its a generic i put in a back-order for it and just forget about it. When the domain goes to auction and people start putting in bigger bids for the domain, its then i do the research. Its no good researching a domain before then, if the domain is way out of your budget.
